A carbonized fir barrel with an old cast-style hand pump standing over it. Water comes up through the pump spout and falls back into the barrel, and because the barrel is deep the sound is lower and slower than a tiered fountain — more trough than cascade.

Twenty-three inches tall, so it sits at the corner of a bed or beside a step rather than dominating anything. Carbonized fir darkens the grain and raises it, which is why it looks like a barrel that has been outside a while on day one.
